They are in the shop, the machine shed and the barn with a slab, where tractors, trailers, implements and trucks come and go all year.

What equipment does to a concrete floor

Equipment is hard on a slab in ways a family car is not. Oil, diesel and hydraulic fluid drip and soak into bare concrete. Mud and manure track in and sit in the pores. Heavy loads sit on a small footprint for weeks. Tires and tracks grind at the surface. Over time a shop slab can turn dusty, stained and rough, which is hard to sweep.

Before we quote a shed floor

A shop slab is different from a garage slab, so we ask different questions:

• How old is the slab, and how was it poured? Older pours can be rough, and some were never finished smooth.
• What is on it? Old coatings, sealers, and soaked-in oil each need different prep.
• Where are the cracks and joints? We look at cracks and chips at the estimate and tell you what prep they need.
• Does moisture come up through it? A sealed floor with moisture under it is a problem waiting. Where the slab needs it, we use an MVB moisture vapor barrier base coat, described on the products page, and we plan around what we find.

A coating is not structural, and it will not fix a slab that has failed. If your slab needs more than a coating, we say so at the estimate.

Lead and zinc mining in the Aurora area goes back to 1885. One honest note: a coating is a surface system and does not change the ground under a slab, so what we look at is the concrete in front of us.
